What is Self-Control?
SELF-CONTROL is to have control over yourself; self-control, restraint, balance. Self-control is the ability to control emotions and desires, it is a person's management ability for his future.
Self-control can be considered as one of the basic principles of our rationality and a prerequisite for mental health and well-being. It results in our way of acting, living, relating and, mainly, how to deal with our internal problems.
What does the Bible say about SELF-CONTROL?
Proverbs 25:28
A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.
2 Timothy 1:7
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power and love and self-control.
Proverbs 16:32
He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
The man who has patience and self-control is honored more than a battle hero.
How to learn to control yourself?
According to psychologists, self-control is a pattern of behavior that can be achieved through various learning processes.
And it is not just about monitoring and self-monitoring your actions. It is about being able to fully direct your own behavior, thoughts and emotions.
Start by training your mind. Reserve time just to read the Word and to pray. If you read, not like any book, but understanding that God is talking to you, the Word brings deliverance. Prayer calms down, talking to God brings peace, relief from external pressures, and you can ask the Holy Spirit to take you out of control and help you with that weakness. That alone will help a lot.
If you can attend a Christian psychologist it will also help you.
Stay away (at least for a while) from people who instigate a reaction on your part, people who stress you out etc.
1 Corinthians 6:12
"All things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be enslaved by anything.
Go on trying to control your words. Do not get into other people's fights. If you have no need, do not seek fights from others for you. Do not spread and do not even want to hear about gossip, whether in the family, at work, or among neighbors. Gossip destroys great friendships. TAKE CARE OF YOUR LIFE!
