What is discipline?

DISCIPLINE:

1. Obedience to the rules, to the superiors, to regulations (in army, to laws, traffic rules, etc.).
2. Order, regulation, conduct that ensures the well-being of individuals or the proper functioning (eg, of an organization).
   "it is essential inside a hospital"

HOW TO BE A SELF-DISCIPLINED PERSON?

1. Identify tasks that add value to your routine. First of all, analyze your day-to-day, what are your tasks, the things you need to do, how long can you accomplish them and put possible contingencies.
2. Eliminate distractions.
3. Do not give up halfway.
4. Motivate yourself.

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE TELL ABOUT DISCIPLINE?

Discipline is knowing how to control yourself. The disciplined person is dedicated to good things and does not allow room for sin. Discipline helps to avoid impulses that lead to sin. Discipline is the path to wisdom.

Another meaning of discipline is rebuke, or punishment. Just as parents discipline their children, God disciplines those He loves. God's discipline helps us to recognize our sins and to change our lives. God disciplines us for our own good.

The fear of the Lord
is the beginning of knowledge,
fools despise wisdom,
instruction and discipline.
Proverbs 1:7

Discipline is a sign of love. The Bible says in Hebrews 12:5-11: And have you forgotten the exhortation which addresses you as sons? --"My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor lose courage when you are punished by him. 6 For the Lord disciplines him whom he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives." 7 It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. 9 Besides this, we have had earthly fathers to discipline us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time at their pleasure, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. 11 For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant; later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

Discipline is an expression of parental love. "He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him." (Proverbs 13:24 ).

Properly disciplining children when they are young saves bigger problems later. The Bible admonishes: "Discipline your son while there is hope; do not set your heart on his destruction." (Proverbs 19:18 ).

The figure used by the prophet Jeremiah (Jr 18.1-6) when considering man as clay and God as a potter helps us to understand the valuable process of discipline. Our nature, like clay, has no value. There is nothing in the clay that he can do for himself in order to attribute some value to himself. Likewise, any beauty that exists in us is the result of God's action in us. It is what is called grace, that is, undeserved favor. Discipline is the process that God uses to transform that which has no value into something precious.
